Meta Will Close VR Access to Horizon Worlds in 2026
Meta Sets Timeline to End VR Access to Horizon Worlds

Meta has detailed the next stage of its VR reduction, confirming a closure schedule for Horizon Worlds’ VR version.

In a message sent to account holders, the company announced that from 15 June 2026, users will no longer be able to build, publish or update VR worlds. Access to Horizon Worlds via VR headsets will also be discontinued, with remaining experiences available only through the Horizon mobile application, where compatible.

The company further indicated that from 31 March, Horizon Worlds and its related Events feature will no longer appear in the Quest Store. From 15 June 2026, several VR environments, including Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay, will also be removed from VR availability.

The decision has drawn mixed reactions among VR users. Some have welcomed the change, citing long-standing concerns about the prominence of Horizon Worlds within Meta Quest interfaces and its impact on the visibility of third-party applications.

At the same time, the development amounts to a significant reduction in VR services linked to one of the sector’s most prominent companies. Meta’s hardware accounts for a large share of VR headsets in use, and the withdrawal of a flagship platform marks a significant change in its approach.

The move also affects users who had invested time in creating and maintaining virtual spaces within Horizon Worlds. With the transition to mobile-only access, those environments will no longer be experienced in the same format as before.

Meta has stated that it remains committed to virtual reality, though the closure of Horizon Worlds’ VR functionality signals a clear change in direction for the platform.
